According to the European Commission, more than one third of the 144 reactors currently operating in the enlarged EU-27 will need to be shut down by 2025. France, the UK and Russia have some of the highest decommissioning market values in Europe, with values of $21.5bn, $18.7bn, and $13.5bn, respectively. In Germany, the four operators of nuclear power stations, including E.ON and RWE, face a bill of €18 billion ($24.5 billion) to decommission the country's 17 reactors – over €1 billion per reactor.
