In times of austerity, uprating nuclear power is the answer. Exelon has estimated a power uprate investment cost of $2.2m-$2.5m per added megawatt, about half that of a new reactor. The US NRC expects 24 power uprate applications over the next 4 years, including 11 extended power uprates and 13 measurement uncertainty recapture uprates, thus creating a potential market of $25 billion.
