Waco Bankston
Waco Bankston
General Manager Corporate Services
STP Nuclear Operating Company
View Bio
STP Nuclear Operating Company

Waco began his employment with STPNOC, Inc. in January 2011. Prior to his role at STP Nuclear, Waco served as a senior leader at CenturyLink, Inc., a Fortune 200 technology and services firm with $25 Billion in annualized revenues and over 55 thousand employees world-wide. During his near 16 years at CenturyLink, he served in roles of increasing responsibility and was placed on an executive-sponsored “management fast track” program early in his career.

Just 4 years prior to his deciding to leave CenturyLink for STP, he was promoted to the Senior Director of Corporate Systems. In that role he led an organization of over 300 employees with accountability for managing over $200 million in capital and expense budgets. While doing this, he led his organization to reduce OpEx by 4% year-over-year while improving internal and external customer satisfaction and taking on additional scope to forward the company’s mission of growth through acquisition. Waco was instrumental in the development of the company’s eCommerce platform transforming the company’s customer experiences resulting in positive impacts to revenue recognition and EPS. Waco decided in late 2010 to accept a job offer from STP and relocate his family. He and his family—wife Cristy and 4 children—reside in Lake Jackson, Texas.

Upon arriving at STP, Waco was tasked by the CEO and Board of Directors to “turn around” the existing Information Technology department and to improve the value-add to the business while reducing operating costs—driving value through technological innovation. He has been successful at achieving this objective. Waco has built lasting relationships with personnel and employees at all levels in the organization from the CEO to the front-line employees in part by engaging first-hand in field operations seeking to understand existing pain points. Confidential surveys continue to indicate the company now recognizes tremendous value in IT. IT is now seen as a leader of change at STP. This has been sustained over the past 3 years. Waco has also led the return of near $3 million in hard savings and has reduced his operating budget by roughly 10% in two years while taking on additional strategic scope to move the company forward in a challenging economic market. His focus is on results and behaviors, and he believes attitudes and behaviors are as important as actual results. He serves as the IT Steering Committee Chairperson, on the Senior Management Team, and on the Leadership Training Council for the site. His motto for the organizations he leads—“Can do!”

Waco’s responsibilities have continually grown. He has taken on the responsibilities for Nuclear Records Management, Document Control, Technical Support Services and Administration. With this change in organization and increased shared-services scope his organization size and budget responsibilities nearly doubled. He now has accountabilities for roughly 100 employees and $16 to $18 million in O&M and Capital in aggregate.

Waco has served on non-profit Boards of Directors and has worked with the US Judicial System advocating for abused and neglected children. He serves on the Boards of Directors for the Electric Utilities Cost Group and WiseWear, Inc. Waco has a degree in Business Administration, and in 2012 began work on his MBA. In 2014 he graduated in the top 10% of his class with his MBA from the University of Texas at Austin, McCombs School of Business, one of the country’s leading business schools. His focus while in the program was Finance and Strategic Management.
